MARGAO: Margao Municipal Council (MMC) commenced clearing the black spots along the ring road of Margao, taking serious note of the garbage dumping menace.
Municipal staff was noticed on Saturday fully engaged in clearing the black spots.
Chief Officer Rohit Kadam had already issued public notice, giving clear signals of imposing a fine of Rs 5,000 on those individuals not segregating their household waste into dry and wet and also dumping mixed waste at the isolated places, but to little effect as dumping of waste along the roadside continued in several places in the jurisdiction.
Speaking to media persons, Ravi Naik, a municipal staff, said that they have managed to clear the garbage dumped along the road side of the ring road. “Actually, we lift the garbage on a regular basis from this area, but waste is found again on the next day, said Naik.
He suspects that people from neighbouring villages throw the garbage on the roadside.
Reportedly, the Shadow Council for Margao has been consistently raising the issue pertaining to clearing of black spots within the jurisdiction of Margao Municipality.
He had claimed that it is the responsibility of the contractor engaged in door to door collection of garbage, to clear the black spots. However, one can notice several black spots creating nuisance in the commercial city.
