MARGAO: The Green Goa Foundation (GGF) has levelled accusations against the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) and other authorities, alleging contempt of High Court orders related to the ongoing feast fair in Margao. Raison Almeida, representing GGF, filed a complaint with the concerned authorities, emphasising the failure of the civic body to comply with High Court directives outlined in writ petition number 801 of 2010.
The High Court had issued specific orders for the MMC to follow certain conditions and steps, but according to the complaint, the civic body has not adhered to these directives. The complaint asserts that the MMC’s non-compliance with court orders reflects inefficiency in administration.
“Not a single High Court direction has been followed by the authorities, which is shocking. A fire incident was also reported here and it was found that there was no fire and emergency service deployed at the site,” said Almeida.
Allegations were made that the fair had been permitted in violation of norms, with all 17 directives being allegedly disregarded. The complaint contends that various instructions, including those related to health and safety measures, have been ignored. The MMC is also accused of failing to install CCTV cameras at the fair, in contravention of the court order.
Furthermore, Almeida claimed that the MMC did not ensure the proper cleaning of mobile toilets, municipal toilets, and Sulabh toilets every six hours to maintain sanitary conditions. The civic body is accused of neglecting the cleanliness of the festival venue and its surroundings, as well as failing to provide separate bins for waste collection and segregation.
The court’s order to install a temporary water connection for supply of potable drinking water was also allegedly overlooked by the MMC, he added.
