MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council on Monday held a meeting to condole the death of Councillor Ashlesha Naik. The MMC also resolved to either honour her with a bravery award or hold an annual event to remember the councillor, who sacrificed her life while saving a drowning boy.
Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, MMC Chairperson Babita Angle, VCP Doris Texeira, CO Y B Tawde and others were present for the meet.
“All politicians and the general public must take a lesson from the brave deed of Ashlesha. Her sacrifice to save a another life is an example of humanity. She was always thinking about the weaker section of society and always wanted to do social work, but unfortunately, her dream has remained incomplete, Kamat said.
It’s our responsibility to follow in her footsteps and that will be the best condolence,” said Kamat.
MLA Sardesai said it was shocking that Ashlesha, a dedicated, selfless and devoted social worker, had left this world early. He stated, “She wanted to do something for society and she left a mark of her brave deeds. It’s our responsibility to respect this departed soul by nominating her name for a bravery award.”
He also appealed to the MMC to constitute an award in her name.
While paying her respects, Chairperson Angle said that the MMC would always remember the deeds of ‘brave Ashlesha’ and that the Council would either constitute an award or host a program in her name.
