MARGAO: Shadow Council for Margao (SCM) Convenor Savio Coutinho has criticised the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) and the government for adopting a ‘normal and common practice’ of not supporting a system which is ‘cost-effective or free’ over the years and did everything to ensure that it collapsed.
“Instead of supporting and getting maximum output from such a facility set up by them, they will do everything to ensure that such a facility collapses. And this happens because something new is lined up for expenditures through the public exchequer,” he pointed out.
“The South Goa Planning and Development Authority’s bio-methanation plant initially was made to operate without power supply and with hardly two tonnes of wet waste when its capacity was 5TPD. It was only after the SCM highlighted this fact that regular 5 tonnes started reaching the plant every day,” Coutinho stated.
“Consider the fact that the plant was commissioned in the first week of November 2021, and 40 per cent of the payment due are not paid till this very day after 10 months of commissioning,” he added.
