PORVORIM: Strange as it may sound, an engineer attached to one municipal council has been drawing salary from another municipal council – nearly 50 kms away, and that too, since the past nine months.
This is the unusual situation involving an engineer, who was transferred to Margao Municipal Council nine months ago, but continues to draw his salary from the Mapusa Municipal Council.
Speaking to Herald, Mapusa Municipal Council Chairperson Sandeep Falari said the engineer, who was working with Mapusa Municipal Council, was posted to the Margao Municipal Council in May 2014.
“However, he continues to draw salary of Rs 54,568 (net) from Mapusa Municipal Council, which has put unnecessary strain on the council’s coffers,” Mapusa Municipal Council Chairperson Sandeep Falari told Herald.
“We are paying the salary to the engineer as per the directions of Director of Municipal Administration. The council received a letter from the Director of Municipal Administration dated August 22, 2014, directing us to pay salary to the engineer from May 2014,” informed Falari.
“Accordingly, the council is paying the salary to the engineer, who is working with Margao Municipal Council. This is a huge financial burden on MMC and it should be rectified by the government immediately,” opined Falari.
