MARGAO: Reacting to the uproar at Margao Municipal Council (MMC) over the issue of renting out shops in Gandhi Market with incorrect procedure, Agnelo Fernandes, Chief Officer of the civic body said there are no irregularities in the procedure.

He said all the formalities were done before signing the agreement of renting out the shops.

It is pertinent to note that the day before at the meeting called to discuss the Shigmo festival, heated arguments were witnessed with regard to renting out a few shops. Councillor Ghanashyam Shirodkar, along with others had accused the civic body for fraud and causing loss to the Council.

“All the procedures were done legally and there are no irregularities. Action taken is as per prescribed brochure. Rent certificates are fixed by the Public Works Department as per prevailing rates of 2021. Open tender was published and objections were also heard in the matter,” said CO.
