Margao councillor threatens hunger strike in front of Assembly on Tuesday

Alleges harassment of a staff member of the Civil Supplies dept; criticises the authorities concerned like PWD for failing to keep good upkeep of the roads

MARGAO: In a potentially embarrassing situation for the BJP government, a BJP councillor from the Margao Municipal Council (MMC), Camilo Barreto has threatened to go on a hunger strike in front of the Goa Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, if his complaint about the alleged harassment of a staff member of the Civil Supplies Department is not resolved till then.

While addressing media persons on Sunday, Barreto, alleged that a lady staff officer of the rank of Second Inspector’ has been treated harshly by the department, having been given transfer orders in a short period of time and has recently been transferred to Valpoi.

Earlier this staffer was posted in Quepem and Panjim before this latest transfer. 

Barreto said he had taken this issue up with the Civil Supplies Minister Ravi Naik and was given an assurance that the matter would be looked into but if there is no change by Monday end, he would go on a peaceful hunger strike on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, Barretto, who took it upon himself to fill up a huge pothole on the Borda road with boulders and mud that he had brought himself, criticised the authorities concerned like PWD for failing to keep good upkeep of the roads, which are heavily frequented during the day and could be a risk to commuters during the rains.
