MARGAO: The Judicial Magistrate First Class Margao, Bosco Roberts created a huge flutter not just in Goa, but at the centre, when he ordered a search warrant against convicted MLA Mickky Pacheco, at 10 Akbar Road, New Delhi, the official residence of Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.
An angry and worried state government quickly swung into action to save any immediate embarrassment to Goa’s former Chief Minister and India’s Defence Minister and moved the Sessions court at the residence of the Sessions Judge, and obtained a stay on the JMFC’s order. Advocate General Atmaram Nadkarni told Herald “We moved the Sessions court at Judge Sawaikar’s residence and he has granted a stay on the order”. Hearing on this matter will take place today.
The intervention petitioner in the case Advocate Aires Rodrigues while arguing made a mention that the convicted MLA Mickky Pacheco was seen at 10, Akbar Road in Delhi. The Advocate pushed for the search of the said location. The JMFC asked the Investigating Officer Uttam Raut Dessai and the petitioner “What is the harm in searching 10 Akbar Road”, to which the petitioner said that it’s the Union Defence Minister’s residence.
The JMFC while passing orders asked the petitioner whether he wanted the Court to issue search warrant against the MLA at 10, Akbar Road, to which Advocate Aires said yes and the Investigating Officer didn’t object.
Fresh arrest warrants were also issued against MLA Pacheco as the second warrant term also expired on the April 22.
The petitioner prayed to the court that proclamation may not be issued against the convict as he will get 30 days immunity to appear in court and the police may not be able to nab him then. The JMFC further issued fresh arrest warrants against Mickky Pacheco which are returnable on April 27.
