Every time outgoing Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar was reminded of the dire need to solve the burning issues plaguing the commercial capital, such as traffic congestion, parking lots, ring roads, inter-state bus terminus etc, he only reassured Madgavkars that all these issues would be resolved once the government puts in place the Decongestion Plan. The decongestion plan, a la Panjim, has till date not seen the light of day. Even if the expert agency now receives the government brief to study Margao’s congestion and prepare a comprehensive plan, it remains uncertain when exactly things will fall in place as the fate of the projects would depend on availability of funds. On the ground, the situation is turning from bad to worse with each passing day. The commercial capital has no full-fledged bus stand yet, and not a single parking lot has come up till date despite announcements by the authorities. The half-completed ring road is craving for attention, while the town continues to be choked with heavy traffic for want of alternatives.
