MARGAO: Locals from Margao and Fatorda have complained over the non-collection of garbage in the last week and have criticisied the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) for failing to address the issue.
Bernado Costa from Bolleapand, ward no 2, Fatorda on Monday morning was agitated about how the MMC and councillors had failed to respond to his pleas for help and that he is a senior citizen and the garbage mess was causing a stink in the neighbourhood.
He further complained that the residents are paying the monthly fee and despite this there are still issues.
While the problems with door-to-door garbage collection always crops up at the beginning of the month, the issue has exposed the MMC’s failure to outsource the garbage collection as promised despite it being months since the high powered coordination committee held in Panjim where the decision to outsource was taken.
Locals from Margao and Fatorda complained that they are facing an issue as the uncollected garbage has been occupying space, leaving a bad stench and making it problematic for collection as well.
