The residents claimed the ongoing road-digging, dumping of excavated mud in the storm water drains, and lack of pre-monsoon works by the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) posed a danger to residents, especially students who resume their schooling on June 4.
Social activists Jose Maria Miranda, Cedric da Costa, Aashish Kamat, Avinash Tavares and Laurel Abranches had a detailed discussion with the deputy collector and informed him of the emerging situation in the commercial capital.
Panchwadkar assured them that his office would help the citizens. He said, “Measures are being taken in advance and it is up to the stakeholders to deliver.”
He also scheduled a meeting with the PWD JICA, MMC CP, CO and the Collector later this week to sort out issues caused by the incomplete road works, including filling of the dug-up areas.
Collector Dr Shinde reassured the locals that he would coordinate with the disaster management team and take stock of the situation.
