Margao, Fatorda plunge into ‘darkness’

MARGAO: Margao, Fatorda and several areas of South Goa on Saturday night were badly hit by a sudden power outage. There are reports that several COVID patients who were at home isolation also had to face a tough time due to power cut for almost three to four hours. 

Informed by the sources that power outage was due to blast of the transformer at Xeldem Power Station and video of which has gone viral on social media. Areas most affected due to power cuts were Fatorda and Margao, besides Davorlim. 

The current went off at around 9 pm at few places such as Borda and surrounding areas and they had to wait till 1.30 am and 4 am. Citizens were continuously calling the office of sub-stations. Few complained that their phone calls were not answered by the concerned officers.  Many parts of South Goa remained in darkness until morning. The entire supply was normalised in the wee hours of Sunday. 

Peter Fernandes from Fatorda said people had to suffer badly due to a sudden outage of the power supply. 

As informed by the sources, several homes isolated COVID patients were the most affected ones because of power cuts on Saturday night. There are also reports that continuous calls from the public were going out to the elected representatives.  

Speaking to the media persons, Executive Engineer of Xeldem Power Station said that due to the sudden failure of the 40 MVA transformer at Xeldem many parts of South Goa went into darkness. Restoration of all affected areas was done by 9 am on Sunday.
