Margao Fire Brigade educates public on safety measures

MARGAO: The Margao Division of the Fire and Emergency Services held various demonstrations and lecture series in the town to educate the public about what they should do in case of a fire outbreak.

Sessions were held at Damodar College and Kare Law College Margao for the staff who were shown how to use equipment like fire extinguishers in case there is a fire outbreak.

Margao Station Fire Officer Gill De Souza explained that it is important that the staff of these colleges know what to do as it takes time for the fire brigade to reach the spot and the staff are the first responders to help guide the students given that they are all in a big building with multiple floors.

He said, “It is common for everyone to run away but you need people, in this case the staff, to use the equipment and control the fire before it spreads as timing is important. Similar demonstrations were held at Kadamba Bus Stand Margao for the public.”

De Souza said, “Such activities are part of the Fire Safety Week and that their aim was to give people information and the know-how to deal with such situations.”

Officials emphasised that a major fire incident is preventable if right actions are taken.
