MARGAO: All of the fish vendors at the Margao wholesale fish market have been urged to use electronic weighing machines from September 1.
This message was communicated to them by the Margao Wholesale Fish Market Association president M Ibrahim.
Ibrahim has instructed them to strictly use the electronic weighing machines while selling fish at the market.
The Margao Wholesale Fish Market Association has given a notice to implement the suggestion to all its members.
Association members said that this decision was taken after they received a lot of complaints from the public and this was in the interest of the customers.
Association members added that they were confident that the vendors would take up the initiative as many had already accepted the proposal without much opposition.
M Ibrahim has stated that the association has come forward with this decision to implement electronic digital scales for weighing of fish in the wholesale market and the same is made compulsory to all the members of the associations.
It is interesting to note that few years ago when the legal metrology inspectors had tried to penalise vendors regarding faulty weighing scales, there was a major incident in the market and police had to intervene and escort the legal metrology officials out of the market premises.
With several customers, many from commercial establishments like hotels and restaurants have been demanding for such measures to be implemented for a long time as they wanted to avoid any issues at the market in terms of value for money.
