Margao float parade not on old route: HC

PANJIM: The High Court (HC) of Bombay at Goa on Friday ruled that carnival committee cannot decide the route for the annual festivity, which is in contrary to the resolution adopted by the Margao Municipal Council.

The ruling was made while hearing a petition over the dispute between the Carnival Committee and the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) over the carnival parade route. The MMC had earlier this month decided to hold the carnival parade in Fatorda while the Carnival Committee announced that the parade will be held on the old route in Margao town. The HC has thus set aside the old route. The govt, on Thursday had informed the court that permission for holding the parade on the  highway in the town is not granted. The division bench had then asked the authorities to file an affidavit explaining on what ground permission to hold the parade on the NH is being considered.
