MARGAO: The Urban Health Centre in Margao (UHC) has steeped in to contain fever within is jurisdiction as the number of cases have been soaring over the days.
Speaking to O Heraldo, Dr Succoro Quadros, Medical Officer of UHC stated that the center is closely monitoring areas such as Agalli, Borda, Pajifond, Gogol, Aquem etc that show signs of suspected viral infections. The doctor stated that preventive measures are being taken to ensuring the well-being of residents and stopping the
Illnesses from spreading further. By exercising strict vigilance, the health center aims to promptly identify and manage any health issues that may arise, contributing to a healthier and safer urban environment.
Dr Quadros informed that in July, Margao saw 78 suspected NS1 cases of which only one case was a confirmed case of dengue NS1.
From August 7 to 13, there was an upsurge in the NS1 cases totalling to 43 in a week, however, currently the cases are declining, he stated.
“In the month of July, source reduction drives were done. Number of houses checked was 2781 of which 331 were found to be positive. Number of containers checked was 6054 of which 478 were positive. The breeding was mostly found positive for Aedes,” informed further.
UHC, in the month of August till date the number of houses checked are 4159 of which 219 tested positive. The number of containers checked was 13,161 of which 281 were positive.
It is pertinent to note that UHC, Margao having jurisdiction including the city of Margao and Fatorda with a population of 98,858. The jurisdiction has a total of 25 wards Municipal wards. In the month of July, Margao saw incessant rainfall followed by the dry spell.
Dr Quadros stated that their major target areas are Agalli, Borda, Pajifond, Gogol and Aquem where many cases of fever were reported, but currently there is a decline.
“Help the field workers of the health centre to break the chain of vector transmission,” requested Dr Quadros.
