Margao kabrastan issue reaches CM’s office once again

MARGAO: The Margao kabrastan has now reached the chief minister’s office once again.

MARGAO: The Margao kabrastan has now reached the chief minister’s office once again. The land opposite Sonsodo reserved for kabrastan was supposed to be demarcated according to the orders of deputy collector. However, it has now been decided that the demarcation would be carried out after receiving a go ahead from the chief minister.
The kabrastan issue has been hanging in mid air since 1999. Divisions amongst Muslims and political interventions have delayed the project even further. Since there was opposition on having a kabrastan in Aquem, the MMC had allotted land for the same opposite to the Sonsodo dump.
For the last four years, attempts are being made to start the construction work on the burial grounds but all in vain due to opposition from people. Muslim representative Abdul Matin Carol said, “A solution to this problem is very bleak as it was Digamber Kamat in the past with the same group of people and now it is TCP minister with the same people around.”
The meeting with the chief minister would be a decisive point in the entire issue as the kabrastan for Margao Muslims is now inevitable.
