MARGAO: A case of fraud has come to light which may put a major question mark on the entire e-banking platform over mobile telecom operations in India.
A businessman from Margao has been electronically conned of Rs 9 lakh by means of fraudulent online money transfer transactions.
Vibhav Parker, a real estate businessman, has been conned by unknown persons in a manner that it has become impossible to join the dots to nail the culprits.
Vibhav complained that he has been using a joint current for several years. But Vibhav was shocked to have received a message from the bank that Rs 4,50,000 and 4,50,000 — total 9,00,000 — was transferred from his account.
This was an RTGS online money transfer and has been allegedly credited to a Delhi based cooperative bank and also to the Thane branch of Saraswat Bank.
Now this is surprising, the Cellular number registered to the account of Vibhav had been barred from services all of a sudden even after being no defaulter. This is the very number where the One Time Passwords (OTPs) were being received after entering which the bank gives a gateway to execute transaction. Vibhav Parker has alleged that there is a major foul play in this entire fraud which puts the entire use of the rather convenient e-banking practice into a major question mark.
“We have already informed RTGS authority to investigate. My mobile 9970472024 has been changed without my knowledge and authorisation. This is a serious issue and serious fraud challenging the entire e-banking policy of the country,” said Vibhav.
