MARGAO: Concerned by the deteriorating conditions of the road stretch near the South Goa District Hospital, Margao residents are urging the Public Works Department (PWD) to take immediate measures to prevent accidents in the area. The left side of the road leading from the hospital to the Old Market Circle has numerous craters, with portions of the road caving in.
Milagres Fernandes, a resident of Madel, Margao, expressed the hardships faced by patients, their families, and other visitors to the hospital due to the poor road conditions. He pointed out that a nearby school adds to the footfall on this road, with hundreds of students and parents using it daily.
The severe deterioration of one side of the road makes it difficult for people to spot dangerous potholes, posing a significant risk.
Fernandes demanded that the authorities repair the road stretch or take immediate measures to prevent accidents before any unfortunate incidents occur. Previously, locals had raised the issue of the poor road conditions, resulting in temporary hot mixing of the stretch by the PWD. However, with the onset of monsoon, the roads have worsened due to water-logging, exacerbating the problems. Peter D’Souza, another Margao resident, emphasized that this road stretch serves as a National Highway and is used by hundreds of commuters daily.
“There is not a single cautionary signboard on this stretch, further adding to the hardships faced by motorists,” he added.
