Margao locals push for probe into fake job confirmation letters

MARGAO: Margao citizens, led by former Municipal Chairperson Savio Coutinho, have voiced concerns over an ongoing job fraud reportedly involving fake job confirmation and joining letters attributed to one of India’s largest crude oil and natural gas corporation, a public sector undertaking of the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

Despite lodging complaints with the Superintendent of Police (SP) and bringing attention to the issue, they allege that no substantial action has been taken to address the fraudulent activities. Coutinho emphasised the victimisation of innocent individuals seeking employment.

Others like Lalan Parsekar and Loyola Rodrigues, who have been actively pursuing this matter, highlighted the plight of unemployed youth falling prey to fraudulent schemes promising employment opportunities. They noted the timing of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit, which focused on progress but failed to address such underlying issues.

The citizens pointed out that numerous Goan youths, including Maclin Dias, had fallen victim to the scam, losing substantial sums deposited into the fraudsters’ accounts. Despite assurances of employment and attractive salaries, victims grew suspicious when additional payments were demanded. Coutinho urged other victims to come forward, pushing for a thorough investigation and compensation for those who suffered financial losses. He also highlighted the broader issue of inadequate job opportunities in the State and the nation.
