The vendors expressed anguish over MMC inaction against a drunkard who assaulted a security guard at the market.
Ajgaonkar alleged that MMC stood as a bystander and did not take action against the accused.
The incident had occurred four days ago wherein the security guard appointed to keep a check on the problems caused by drug addicts and alcoholic youth was assaulted in the night.
Ajgaonkar also alleged that the Margao police inspector has not taken any action against the accused.
Raising the issue of vendors ding business at Margao traffic islands, he questioned why the MMC has failed to stop the same. “We won’t allow these encroachments and activities in Margao beyond market areas,” he warned.
“We will increase our pressure on the MMC if they do not act and solve our problems soon,” he threatened.
Meanwhile, the person accused of assaulting the security person was arrested when the morcha was underway.
The chief officer has decided to take up the matter with the authorities to permanently curb the problems at the Margao markets.
