MARGAO: Margao Municipal Council (MMC) on Friday conducted a drive against the illegal encroachment on the footpaths and warned the shop owners of strict action. Goods worth thousands of rupees were also attached.
A team of MMC conducted the drive at Station Road, and nearby areas, besides at Kadamba bus stand (KTC).
It has been observed that several shop owners engaged in encroachment on the footpaths, resulting in hardships to the public. This type of encroachment is a regular feature in the commercial town. Several natives including the New Market Traders Association time and again have been urging the MMC to take strict actions against such types of illegalities, but the civic body has failed to act.
However, on Friday Agnelo Fernandes, Chief Officer, MMC directed the team led by market inspectors to conduct a drive against the encroachment, wherein shop owners were warned of strict action.
