MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Garden continues to become the dumping ground for scrap materials. However, Margao Municipal Council (MMC) claimed that the process pertaining to auctioning the scrap materials has started and the restoration of the garden will be done within the next couple of days.
The scrap material dumped in the garden has been apparently lying there for a long time, and it has lost its sentimental importance to the people of Margao and others. MMC further revealed that with no other alternative place MMC is forced to dump the scrap materials inside the garden. Most of the scrap materials are from drives conducted by the civic body against encroachments and other illegalities.
Speaking to Herald, former Chairperson Savio Coutinho said the scrap material dumped in the Margao Municipal garden has been lying there for a very long time and doesn’t reflect a good image of the same.
“Having witnessed the cleanup of the Council building, we hope that the same will be adopted in the Municipal garden as well,” he said.
Lyndon Pereira, Chairperson of MMC, admitting that there is no other alternative place to dump the scrap materials said, “We will be auctioning the scrap materials very soon and instructions have been issued to the concerned officers. A place will be dedicated in the garage to dump scrap materials in the future.”
