MARGAO: In order to monitor and resolve the menace of garbage black spots, the Margao Municipal Council decided to take a step forward by involving the services of ReCity, a circular waste management company in near future.
On Tuesday, the officials of the company held a presentation with the Margao Municipal Council, here.
Tushar Tongaonkar, project lead of ReCity along with his team conducted the presentation wherein Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes, Chairperson Lyndon Pereira and councillors attended.
It has been brought to the notice of the MMC that this company is monitoring the black spot garbage issue in few wards of the Ponda Municipal Council jurisdiction.
Speaking to the media persons, Chief Officer Agnelo said, “This presentation was related to how to manage the black spot of garbage within the jurisdiction of the municipality.”
“ReCity has already started their project in Ponda municipality and I was advised by the higher authorities to discuss the issue with the officials of the company in order to find out the ways of resolving garbage menace in Margao town,” he informed.
He said, “The company officials have explained in detail the functioning and how it will benefit to monitor the garbage menace, especially with regard to the collection and dumping of garbage in the town.”
“The funding will be done under corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. We have given the green signal to the company to present the project in detail. Later, the proposal will be moved before the Department of Urban Development. The company has a GPS system that will monitor and track the garbage collection and lifting of the garbage from the black spot,” informed the CO.
Tongaonkar said that the whole purpose of this project is that to make sure the monitoring of the garbage generated is diverted and not reaching the landfill.
“The second motive is that social status is received, which works in this sector, besides to increase the revenue for the municipality. Today, we have shared our intention what exactly ReCity will be doing in Margao. This project will set up a solid waste management system for the council, whereby the council will be able to track where the waste is generated at the user level,” he stated.
