Margao New Market vendors to shut shops till May 10

MARGAO: Fearing more spread of Coronavirus in town, the New Market vendors on Monday decided to go for voluntary lockdown till May 10, to break the chain.

As informed by President of New Market Vendors Association Vinod Shirodkar, the vendors have voluntarily decided to shut their shops for another eight days.

“It is on record that Margao has the highest number of COVID cases and it is increasing. It is obvious that the people from all corners come to the Margao market and as a result, there is more possibility of Coronavirus being spread rapidly,” he stated.

He also said that besides the grocery and vegetable shops many other establishments also remained open. And shockingly no government machinery was witnessed taking actions.

“It is our request to the government to take strict actions against the violators and only the shops of essential items to be allowed to operate,” he urged.

Meanwhile, on Monday several shops and establishments other than groceries were open till late in the evening. Shops include hardware, electrical, parlours, garages, etc were operating at Fatorda, Margao, and surrounding areas.
