A complaint from the Old Bus Stand in Margao has raised fresh concerns over mismanagement of public amenities, after a woman alleged that a toilet attendant charged her ₹5 for using the urinal—despite the official rate being ₹3.
According to the complaint, the Ladies Section of the pay-and-use toilet does not display any rate chart, allowing attendants to arbitrarily charge users. The absence of a mandatory rate board has triggered questions over transparency and potential misuse.
Residents are now calling on the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) to intervene and take strict action against the overcharging. Many argue that such practices discourage proper use of public sanitation facilities and burden daily commuters, especially women.
Authorities have yet to respond, but locals hope the MMC will step in to enforce regulations, install proper signage, and ensure fair pricing at all public toilets across the city.
