Margao plunges into darkness amid heavy showers

MARGAO: As Margao experienced heavy showers on Thursday, local residents and businesses in the commercial capital of Goa were left inconvenienced by a prolonged power outage in the evening. This issue of frequent power cuts has been a recurring concern for citizens in Salcete and other parts of South Goa, who recently voiced their grievances during a public hearing held in Margao, where Chief Electrical Engineer (CEC) Stephen Fernandes was present.

While the CEC urged the public to be patient, residents expressed frustration over enduring extended periods without electricity. Thursday evening’s power outage, combined with the heavy rain outside, left citizens in a state of uncertainty, anxiously waiting for the power supply to be restored.

Shopkeepers also raised their concerns, stating that regular power outages are posing difficulties for their businesses. They emphasized the need for a permanent solution to this recurring problem, rather than temporary measures that only lead to power cuts resurfacing on another day.

Power department officials assured that the power supply would be restored shortly, but some complaints were also raised about power fluctuations affecting electrical appliances.

Similar complaints have been voiced by villagers in Salcete, who experienced a worsening of the issue following a recent power shutdown by the Power Department.
