MARGAO: Margao police has sought for custodial interrogation of the husband and in laws of deceased Vedeshri, who along with her minor daughter had committed suicide last week.
In its reply to the anticipatory bail application filed by her husband Yogesh and in-laws Athmaram and Suganda Parab, the police have objected to the granting of bail to the trio as an offence of abetment to commit suicide, harassment and torture is registered against them.
PSI Melson Colaco submitted to the court that alleged harassment to the deceased has come on record during investigations and recording of statements of the witnesses.
He said the applicants have shut down their house at Fatorda since the commission of the offence and has failed to make their presence available for the purpose of investigation.
Saying that a house search of the accused persons is required  to be carried out to find out/recover any written material/suicidal note if kept by the victim Vedeshri, the investigating officer alleged that the accused have been harassing the victim since the last five years.  ‘That the accused persons are not cooperating with investigation and that custodial interrogation of accused is required for thorough interrogation to verify certain facts which have come on record and for confrontation. Offence committed by accused applicants is against women and is social crime which is of serious nature and has created sensation in society and that if at this preliminary  stage of investigation, if present applicants’ anticipatory bail is grant it will send wrong signals to society.  That if accused applicants are granted anticipatory bail then that they may tamper with evidence and try to destroy same”, the police said, while praying for the rejection of the anticipatory bail application filed by the trio.
