MARGAO: Margao Town Police have lost 32 personnel to the Fatorda Police Station and is now reduced to a mere skeletal staffing given the fact that quite a number of police personnel are deployed for guard duties at various establishments.
Margao Town Police had nine police sub-inspectors (PSIs) and seven assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) besides having 16 head constables and 109 constables. Of these, two PSIs and two ASI have been transferred to Fatorda thereby leaving only seven PSIs and five ASIs at Margao.
Of the 16 head constables, 6 have been deployed to Fatorda police station leaving behind only 10 head constables at Margao.
Of the 109 constables, 22 have been deployed to Fatorda leaving behind at Margao Town Police Station 87 constables. But in reality there are only 52 constables at the police station as 35 are posted on guard duty at various places.
18 Constables are on duty at the courts while three are on duty at Collector’s residence another three at Collector’s office and two in the control room. 3 constables are on duty at the Judge’s colony while another three are on duty as treasury guards and two are appointed guards at the Old Collectorate building.
The police force available at Margao Town Police station is truly skeletal and it puts a lot of pressure on those doing the night patrolling at the 18 points that have now been created from the earlier 25 points and the five nakabandi points where three personnel are required to be on duty.
