Bustling sub-registrar’s office deserted for two days

MARGAO: The electricity consumers have taken a bad hit of the impact of the demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes. Due dates have crossed and to add to that woes, the electricity department was refusing to accept these notes. Same is the condition at the sub-registrar of societies’ office which gets a huge footfall daily looked deserted on Thursday. 
Hundreds of people who visited the Electricity office at Margao left dejected after the department to accept payments of power bills in the denomination of Rs 500 and Rs 1000. This is so, despite receiving clear guidelines from the government to accept these notes. 
The officials at the cash counter claimed that the banks have asked them not to accept the demonetized denomination notes. Today being the last date for the payment of bills, several people lined up at the offices and attempted to clear off their bills but had to return home without paying their bills. 
The powerhouse office saw large number of people with lots of mixed information on the demonetization issue and also on the payment of bills. 
Prashant Naik from Malbhat said that the employees at the counters refused to accept Rs 500 note. Confused people tried to meet the Executive Engineer, but he had been to Panjim. Meanwhile, the junior engineer said that he had no idea of the same. 
When asked why the power department was refusing to accept the notes, an employee said that an HDFC bank branch operating out of the power department building had instructed them not to accept the notes.
While the Electricity Department refused to accept the notes, the Sub-Registrar office at Margao is deserted last two days due to demonetisation. Normally, the hundreds of people visit the office for registering deeds, agreements and wills.  
BJP welcomes demonetisation
PANJIM: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday stated that the decision to ban currency notes of Rs 500 and 1,000 has been welcomed by people across the country, and believes that it will show a positive impact, which will lead to an increase in seats in the 2017 State elections. “The decision to stop circulation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes will lead to a positive impact and will help reduce corruption and black money. People across the State and country have termed it as a good initiative and thus BJP believes they have chance to increase the number of seats in the upcoming elections,” BJP General Secretary Sadanand Tanawade said, Stating it is a bold decision taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said that it will bring an end to corruption and black money and help in the progress and development of the country. BJP State President Vinay Tendulkar said Congress in its long tenure did nothing for Goa, and even when BJP was in power in Goa, while UPA was at the Centre, it refused to give grant for the third Mandovi bridge and that resulted in taking a loan from NABARD.
