MARGAO: At a time when people are already struggling to secure regular water supply, there has been a significant waste of thousands of liters of water for nearly a month due to leakage from a pipeline in Old Market area, Margao.
This situation has raised concerns about conservation and responsible management of water resources, especially during times of scarcity.
Residents and local authorities are urged to address this issue promptly to prevent further wastage and ensure equitable access to water for everyone. According to local residents, despite multiple requests to authorities, no action has been taken to address the water leakage issue. They claim that the leakage continues unchecked, with more water entering the drains, especially during high-pressure periods at night.
Local resident, Remedios Fernandes expressed anger over the negligence of concerned authorities, including the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) by not plugging the leakage, which has led to significant water wastage.
“Thousands of people across the State of Goa, including in the vicinity of Margao, are struggling to get regular water supply. The local residents worried about water availability in the near future. It is thus shocking to see water being wasted since the past one month,” he said.
Rajan Naik, another concerned resident, urged the authorities to repair the water pipeline immediately to prevent further wastage of water.
“It seems that the authorities are least bothered about the issue. It was the duty of the civic body to initiate measures in order to stop the water leakage, which hasn’t been done,” he said. One of the MMC staff members present at the site, said that they had been informed about the water leakage on several occasions, but nothing has been done.
An official of the civic body said that he had already informed the Public Works Department (PWD) about the issue.
