MARGAO: Angered by the number of private buses parked on the roadside around the  Kadamba Bus stand in Margao , causing traffic congestion and hindering pedestrians, residents have called for the swift action by the traffic police.

Apart from the main roads, one can also find private buses parked on the street even in residential places such as Fatorda, Arlem and Nuvem , besides at Power House. Several trucks are also seen parked on the roadside creating major obstruction to traffic movement, mostly during nighttime.

“We have noticed that private buses are parked on the roadside at KTC over the past few weeks. Those buses are left here for hours posing a risk to the commuters, mostly people on two-wheelers,” said Milagres Fernandes, a social worker from Madel. He said that citizens are not against the bus service business, but they should be parked at the proper places and not on the roads, as they risk the safety of other road-users. “Roads are not meant for parking these buses, but shockingly, we can notice private busesparked on the roadside at many places in Fatorda. The concerned authorities, such as Traffic Cell or the Transport Department need to initiate action against such type of illegal parking of buses,” said Fernandes.

Peter Fernandes, another resident of Fatorda, also told Herald that many times commuters get confused due to these parked buses, as the other passing vehicles are not visible.

“The roads in Fatorda need to be appreciated, but this parking of private buses on the roadside has resulted in hardships to the public. The private bus owners also need to show some concern about road-users and avoid parking on the roadside,” he said.

Gautam Salunke, Police Inspector, Traffic Cell-Margao, told Herald that his

office is initiating action against all the private bus owners parking their buses on the roadside on a

regular basis.  “Yes, private buses are parking on the roadside at many places and we are issuing

challans to them, if found,”Salunke said.
