Margao residents release video on ‘corruption’ in building Branch Nallah

MARGAO: A group of Margao residents on Monday released a video highlighting blatant corruption allegedly by the Water Resource Department (WRD) pertaining to the construction of ‘Branch Nallah’ in Margao.

Addressing the reporters, the residents said that the video pertaining to the work of construction of ‘Branch Nallah’

behind ESI Hospital Margao, aims to inform the general public and the Madgaonkars in

particular, how Rs 81 lakh from the government treasury is being utilised to facilitate

private real estate development in Margao.

The 14-minute video has photos and video recordings taken at different points of time ever since the work commenced, including  the illegal felling of 30 trees on Christmas eve in December 2021.

They have further said that corruption is so blatant

today that those indulging into corrupt practices are being flaunted openly.

Savio Coutinho, former Chairperson of Margao Municipal Council said that the purpose of having the press briefing on the eve of the Independence Day was to “throw a challenge before Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to watch this video and take action to prove that his government is “truly against corruption and malpractices”.

“There will be tall claims of development at the Independence Day celebrations. If this type of shoddy development works is what the government will refer to, then such claims are meaningless,” he charged.
