Margao residents upset with MMC for neglecting waterlogged areas

MARGAO: Residents, who are living in the jurisdiction of Margao Municipal Council (MMC) are upset that the complaints regarding waterlogging of areas that have become dangerous for the pedestrians to walk on are not being addressed.

They added that complaints to the authorities such as the MMC, PWD or District Collector etc have been in vain.

“I have called them (MMC) so many times over the last couple of days but no response. The slabs over the drain have given way and are now sloping downwards. If anyone walks on this, they could fall or slip. In the rains, one may not see this also,” a shopkeeper based in Hari Mandir, Margao said.

There were also complaints about the drains not being cleared properly which blocks the flow of water and causes the accumulated water to spill onto the roads, which poses a risk to the commuters.

“The pedestrians walk in the centre of the road in places at Agalli and other areas, to avoid these waterlogged areas and this puts them at risk too,” said Ketan Dessai from Margao.

“Some of the roads in Fatorda have not been repaired properly after they were dug in the middle for work on linking houses to the sewerage network. Due to this, there are gaping holes in the road, which are filled with water when it rains and the two-wheelers passing by could meet with an accident due to this,” said Lydia Fernandes, a college student.
