MARGAO: Trouble with the pay parking system at Margao Railway station continues to arise, with the Konkan Railway Corporation (KRC) facing its latest setback when the contractor failed to pay the license fee, resulting in KRC terminating the pay-parking contract agreement.
Speaking to media persons, KRC Senior Public Relations Officer (PRO) Baban Ghatge explained that the decision to terminate the contract was taken as the contractor had failed to pay the sum of Rs 27 lakh for the licence as per the original agreement.
Ghatge, however, added that arrangements have been made on a temporary basis for the pay-parking fees to be collected. This would be on a monthly basis until the new contractor is appointed.
The PRO added that the tender process is underway, where KTC has invited quotes for the pay-parking contract, and that he expects these procedures to be finalised soon. He added that the tender had already been opened.
It may be recalled that the KRC pay-parking system, which has been a recent initiative for the Margao station, has been fraught with problems ever since it was launched.
Be it the protests by citizens and Congress against the new system or a fight between the pay-parking contractor staff and a local taxi driver, the pay-parking system even had to be temporarily suspended before it resumed again.
