RAIA: Margao Sports Club dominated Peddem Bomm Sports Club with a 3-0 victory, advancing to the quarter-finals of the Nerul Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament 2024, hosted by Nerul Sports Club at their ground on Wednesday.
Right from the start, both teams showcased attacking prowess. In the 7th minute, Margao SC’s Frezar Miranda narrowly missed a one-on-one scoring opportunity, shooting just above the goal post. Despite Cliff Barreto’s precise through ball to Frezar soon after, Margao SC couldn’t secure an early lead. However, in the 10th minute, an unexpected shot from Velton D’Souza found its mark, bypassing the Peddem Bomm goalkeeper to put Margao SC in the lead. Frezar’s subsequent attempt from outside the penalty area failed to find the target, while his volley from a cross in the 30th minute also missed the mark.
The second half saw Frezar adding another goal to Margao SC with a well-timed header. He completed his brace by outmaneuvering the Peddem Bomm goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation. Saiesh Govekar’s shot from inside the penalty area narrowly missed the mark in the 58th minute. Despite Peddem Bomm’s determined efforts to score, Margao SC’s defenders held firm, thwarting any attempts on goal.
