A group of Tender Coconut sellers in Margao met Margao Municipal Council Chairperson Damodar Shirodkar on Tuesday in response to the recent selling ban. The sellers gathered to discuss the prohibition imposed on vending their products in certain areas.
During the meeting, Shirodkar inquired about the number of coconut vendors operating within Margao and instructed the Market Officer to provide detailed information about their locations. He emphasized the need to identify where these vendors disposed of their coconut shells, citing concerns over the environmental impact and lack of space for waste disposal.
Expressing his concern over the disposal of coconut shells, Shirodkar highlighted that the municipality lacked adequate space for dumping such waste. He pointed out that MMC had identified seven to eight spots in Margao where these vendors were found to be discarding coconut shells.
The MMC CP further iterated the importance of abiding by the restrictions while encouraging vendors to find alternative solutions for coconut shell disposal. Shirodkar emphasized the need for collaboration between the authorities and vendors to find sustainable waste management methods.
