Chief Minister Digambar Kamat on Sunday laid the foundation stone for the Rs 4.27 crore underground power cabling in the Comba area of the commercial capital in the presence of power minister and power officials.
Once completed before the onset of monsoons, the project would make the commercial capital the first town in Goa to have high tension and low tension underground cables.
“This is the gift of the Goa government to the people of Margao,” remarked Executive Engineer, Peter Fernandes while addressing the residents of Comba on Sunday evening.
In his address, the Chief Minister said that the government had spent around Rs 80 crore for the ambitious underground cabling, adding that the government has set up extensive power infrastructure to take care of the power requirements.
“Margao has a total of four power sub-stations, connecting Xeldem and Ponda to the city. Our vision was to make sure that we make provision for the next 20 years”, he added.
The chief minister thanked the people of Comba ward for electing the two Councillors owing allegiance to the Congress party. “I want to assure you that all pending works would be taken up in Comba on a war footing. Unemployed would be provided with jobs”, he assured.
Saying that Margao has witnessed whole lot of development in recent times, the chief minister sought the cooperation of the people to execute the underground cabling project in Comba ward.
In his address, Executive Engineer, Peter Fernandes sought the cooperation of the people to get the project executed by the contractor as the digging work may snap the underground water lines. “There may be lot of inconveniences caused to the residents with the underground cabling work. But, with the cooperation of the people, the work can be completed in a time-bound manner”, he added.
The project will cost the exchequer Rs 4.27 crore and is being executed by Larsen and Tubro Ltd.
