MARGAO: The New Market Traders Association had called for a stop to permissions for exhibitions and fares in the commercial capital and reserved its right to enforce a Margao bandh in support of its long pending demand.
In a letter to the MMC Chief Officer, Association president Vinod Shirodkar warned that the traders will be forced to call for a Margao bandh and take to the streets if the Civic body grants any permission for the exhibitions. “Every time we highlight the issue, we are told that there is a fundamental right under the Constitution protecting freedom of trade and commerce. But, every freedom is subject to reasonable restrictions and that no freedom is absolute. Our business in the new market is severely affected by these exhibitions, affecting our right to livelihood guaranteed under Article 21 of the Indian constitution,” Shirodkar said.
