Margao traders to open market from Monday

MARGAO: Stating that the vendors outside the Margao market are openly doing business by the roadside despite the government curfew, the New Market Traders Association on Friday decided to open their shops from Monday.

Speaking to the media persons, Vinod Shirodkar, president of New Market Traders Association, Margao claimed that the ratio of COVID positive cases has not declined as a result of curfew. He further said that traders will not pay any tax to the municipality for the next one year as they are in total loss.

“All the shops outside the Margao market are open. Groceries, besides plastic and other commodities, are on sale by the roadside. We have closed the market since last one month, however, the ratio of COVID positive cases has not declined in any way”, he stated.

Vinod has urged the government to close all the shops, besides milk and medical stores.

“We have decided to open the markets from Monday onwards and we are appealing to all others to open their markets. Actually, the main reason for the spread of Coronavirus is the outsiders entering Goa,” he claimed.

He claimed that traders are in total loss and hence they will not pay any tax or any type of fee to the municipality for the next year. Besides, he also asked the government to compensate them for their losses.
