MARGAO: Goa traffic police manning the streets of Margao have headed for the Sunburn festival, leaving the arduous task of regulating the city traffic to security personnel from the Goa Human Resources Development Corporation.
Around 90 GHRDC security personnel have taken up positions on the city roads to regulate traffic as the men in white and navy blue uniform have been picked up by the authorities for traffic regulation at the Sunburn festival, besides the exposition at Old Goa.
While the traffic personnel used to manage the traffic points with the help of Home Guards when a good number of personnel were deputed for the Old Goa exposition, the ongoing Sunburn festival has only made matters worse for the traffic cops.
Sunday saw the GHRDC security personnel manning key traffic points opposite the Comunidade Building-Kohinoor junction and the State Bank of India junction in place of the traffic personnel.
Herald inquiries revealed that two officers and around 4-5 personnel have been deputed for the Sunburn festival for traffic regulation, while others are doing duties at Old Goa and the Zuari bridge.
Sources said that the GHRDC personnel will definitely come in handy for the manpower starved Margao traffic cell this being the peak season. “We have received around 90 security personnel. They will be trained to meet the requirements from Monday,” said a senior security official.
