Margao’s burning issues may not have received the attention they deserved from the Manohar Parrikar regime during the last two-and-a-half-years. Even then, Madgavkars had pinned their hopes on Parrikar to deliver the goods and bring about a turn around on various fronts – be it the comprehensive plan to decongest the town, a lifeline to the ailing district hospital, the rehabilitation of the residents of Talsanzor and Moti Dongor, the Sonsodo imbroglio, the de-contamination of River Sal, return of the fields acquired by the Congress et al. While governance is a continuous process, Parrikar’s absence in the State has cast a shadow not just in terms of delivery, but the funds needed to ensure that these projects see the light of day. GUILHERME ALMEIDA takes a close look at the host of projects and issues which the town was looking forward for a solution to during Parrikar’s tenure.
