Margao youth murdered at his birthday party, police arrest gang of five

According to Margao police, the murder took place late Wednesday night at Azad Nagar, Margao.

MARGAO: Tension prevailed at Margao on Thursday morning after a five-member gang allegedly murdered a 25-year-old youth during his birthday celebrations.

 According to Margao police, the murder took place late Wednesday night at Azad Nagar, Margao when Mukhtar Badni was celebrating his birthday in an open space. 

The accused also injured Allabaksh Pathan (29) who has been admitted at the South Goa District Hospital, Margao for treatment. Enraged by Mukhtar’s killing, his friends set fire to three two-wheelers allegedly belonging to the accused.  The police gave the names of the accused as Vinod Jalgar, 28, working as a manager at a footwear showroom; Suresh Jalgarage, 29, and Asif Nagarehi, 29, both having tarpaulin sheet business; Akshay Bhove, 24, who works as a dance teacher and Mohammad Hussain, 31, working in a garment shop and all residents of Azadnagar, Margao.

According to sources, a group of youth infamous in the locality as ‘Suresh Gang’ came to the spot and instigated a fight over some petty matter, while the birthday celebration of the deceased was on. The accused began an argument over the birthday party being held in the locality,and in a fit of rage, assaulted Mukhtar with fist blows and sweapons. Allabaksh, who rushed to the rescue of the deceased, was injured in the ruckus.

 Mukhtar was hit on the head during the fight and fell unconscious. He was rushed to the South Goa District Hospital, Margao where the doctor on duty declared him brought dead.

 Considering the gravity of the offence, the police formed multiple teams across the the district and through local intelligence, arrested all the accused.

During the course of interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime and told the police that they attacked the deceased over previous enmity.
