MARGAO: The South Goa Police have solved the murder case of Anwar Shaikh, who was known as Chor Anwar, in less than 24 hours, on Saturday.
While praising the police, the Margao locals were happy that the notorious thief is now dead and will not harass them anymore in future.
A murder case was registered on Friday night following a complaint lodged by Suraj Chari, resident of Ambelim, stating that near Rupa Bar at Moti Dongor, four persons because of their previous enmity with 24-year-old Anwar assaulted him with a broken washbasin, coconut tree log, granite stone, baseball bat and a “koita”.
He also complained that he was also assaulted with a baseball bat when he tried to stop them and hence moved away from there.
Under supervision of DySP Serafin Dias, the police teams led by Police Inspectors Sachin Narvekar, Kapil Nayak, Gurudas Kadam, Melson Colaco, Santosh Dessai, Ravi Dessai and other police personnel arrested the alleged accused 26-year-old Nagraj Nalkar from Moti Dongor, on Friday night itself.
However, 29-year-old Jagesh Metti and 28-year-old Sadashiv Kaddi, who were hiding at their hideout at Ponda were arrested on Saturday morning and Basavraj Kaddi was arrested in the afternoon.
Investigations revealed that on December 27, at around 7 pm, Anwar had a quarrel with Jagesh near the railway station and Anwar splashed beer on his face. Jagesh informed this incident to his cousins Sadashiv and Basavraj, who decided to seek revenge. Accordingly at around 8.45 pm, when Anwar had gone to Moti Dongor to visit his wife, he was assaulted by all three along with another friend Nagraj.
Anwar was a known history-sheeter, who had 15 criminal cases registered against him, besides facing an externment proceeding. The District Magistrate was also approached to detain him under NSA. His death in a way has brought relief to law abiding citizens of Margao.
