MARGAO: Margao’s Civil Society (CS) lashed out at the 14 councillors who skipped the MMC meeting to attend the anticipatory bail hearing of Margao MLA Digambar Kamat in Panjim. They said the councillors have clearly revealed their ‘care-a-damn’ attitude towards Madgaonkars.
The CS stated that Madgaonkars were disappointed with the abrogation of the meeting as several urgent issues, including making Margao a Smart City, the garbage issue and the parking issue could not be discussed.
“Was attending the court hearing at Panjim in support of an MLA a greater duty than their duty to Madgaonkars? Did they foolishly believe that their presence could alter the verdict in favour of the MLA? Were the councillors not aware that an important agenda at today’s meeting was to decide on the proposal to make Margao a Smart City, for which they had already missed the deadline of July 7, 2015?” asked Advocate Rajeev Gomes.
“They have shown that they cannot face the Civil Society. The time has come to shunt them out and get a new lot who really cares for Margao,” said Nelson Fernandes.
The group condemned the “gross misconduct” of the absent councillors and stated that they would file a complaint with the Director of Municipal Administration for appropriate action.
