MARGAO: Migrants continue to make a mess at Margao and bathe, wash clothes, drink openly, spit, dirty public places and loiter around at several places much to the annoyance of locals here who demanded that the authorities initiate immediate action against such activities.
Citizens say that nearly 30 to 40 migrants take shelter in and around the Colva circle at Old Market and moving around creating nuisance all over the area in the locality.
However, on Monday, citizens expressed anger after witnessing these migrants taking bath on a busy footpath.
Speaking to O Heraldo, Milagresh Fernandes, a citizen of Margao demanded action against the nuisance makers.
“This group of migrants have taken shelter here for the last several months and create a mess all over. Now, they brazenly bathe on the footpath in broad daylight,” Fernandes informed.
He also said that all these migrants sleep on the footpaths at night and make a mess around.
On the other hand, citizens have also expressed frustration after witnessing the same group loitering near the Osia Multiplex building.
The concerned authorities need to act now or this group of migrants will cause trouble to the public, said another citizen.
It is pertinent to note that several migrants are also seen loitering outside the municipal garden and other public places, thereby creating nuisance in the municipal garden. Citizens have found them spitting and dirtying the public places, which has become an eyesore.
Citizens have now called on the authorities to either drive them away from the area or come out with the implementation of plans in order to safeguard the interest of the public, besides those migrants.
Citizens have also pointed out hordes of migrant labourers gathering around the Margao Municipal Council building is a cause of concern.
