Margao: On the eve of Diwali, the festival of lights, Margao’s markets witnessed a massive rush of consumers despite undergoing financial crisis due to COVID.
“The COVID pandemic had devastated us, but this year we are witnessing a rush. Cloth and light vendors were busy with customers “, said a flower vendor from one of the markets in the commercial capital.
Wednesday saw a last minute rush by consumers for purchasing firecrackers, clay diyas, marigold flowers, akash kandils and decorations.
People were reportedly gathering in large numbers to purchase Narkasur masks and effigies. The shops in and around the town were illuminated to attract customers. The prices of fruits were on the higher side due to massive rush.
“There is a steep rise in the prices of fruits on account of Laxmi Pujan which will be celebrated on Diwali day,” said Subrat Kale, a customer who visited the market to purchase fruits.
