Margao’s Ravindra Bhavan gets new chairman after year’s wait

MARGAO: After a prolonged period of nearly one year, the Ravindra Bhavan at Margao has finally received its new leadership, with Rajendra Talak being appointed as the new Chairman by the government. Additionally, Manohar Borkar has been appointed as the Vice-Chairman. This decision was made following an order issued by Sagun Velip, the Director of the Art and Culture Department.

It is worth noting that the position of Chairman at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao had remained vacant since the last assembly elections. With the absence of a leader, various unresolved issues plagued Ravindra Bhavan, becoming a topic of discussion day by day. The Minister for Art and Culture had previously mentioned that the file pertaining to the appointment of the new Chairman was pending before the Chief Minister.

Due to the absence of a responsible authority to address grievances and oversee matters at Ravindra Bhavan, many artists, especially Tiatrists, and the audience had been facing hardships. Issues such as non-functioning air conditioning, lack of a canteen facility, toilets without water and a slew of other maintenance problems with the building were among the major concerns.

The newly appointed Chairman, Rajendra Talak, expressed his awareness of the issues at Ravindra Bhavan and stated that he would work towards resolving them, step by step. The  lovers of Tiatr have expressed their satisfaction with the new appointment and have requested the Chairman to address the issues as soon as possible.

Paul D’Souza, a Tiatr enthusiast, expressed his disappointment, stating, “Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, one of the prominent cultural institutions in the South district, has failed to provide basic facilities to the artistes and audiences. It is disheartening to witness the absence of a canteen facility and a lack of organised programmes in the auditorium. Considering the significant number of attendees, even obtaining a water bottle has become a hardship.”
