Clean Margao but potholed…
The SGPDA along with an NGO run by builder Rajendra Talak took up an initiative namely Clean Margao Green Margao. The initiative is to clear certain areas in Margao, including the SGPDA market and to beautify the streets of Comba and highlight the infrastructure in that area. While Comba has got a facelift on its crumbling heritage infrastructure, the road leading to the Civil Court is a mess with potholes and ripped scars from phone lines being laid and sewerage work. Neither the SGPDA nor the Municipality feels it should coordinate with the PWD and fix these roads and neither the advocates of the courts in the vicinity feel the need to file a PIL.
Wet, stinking Comba subway…
Firstly the Comba subway turns into a swimming pool in the monsoons and is shut for three months. Now the subway made of cement roads under the railway track is still flooded with water, slippery and stinking. Blame it on the building that releases sewage in the open along that line that flows through the subway, into a small tributary of the River Sal, but nobody seems to be in the mood to take action against these erring building societies.
Electricity Department’s debris…
The people of Comba are angry that the Electricity Department placed junction boxes right in the way of the pedestrian hard shoulder along the street, eating into pedestrian commute space. But even worse, the Power Department dug out the earth to place these junction boxes but refused to clear out the debris which is a nuisance for Comba residents.
Filth, garbage is all that’s left at KTC bus stand
The Margao KTC Bus stand is one big filthy yard with garbage everywhere from the inter-state buses, haphazard parking, illegal gaddas, massively encroached vegetable stalls, stray cattle, broken benches and drunken hobos lying on the floor. People feel sickened by the Margao Bust stand. A foundation stone has been laid but the government says it will decide only post polls. Madganvkar’s have a terrible time when they choose to commute by bus.
