Even SP overlooks criminal complaints and cries of anguish by repeating the ‘civil’ tune

CALANGUTE: Even after French actor Marianne Chicherio known as Marianne Borgo, appealed to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to rescue her from intimidation and threats by “gangs”, the North Goa SP echoed his PI’s constant refrain by saying she is held against her will in her house and that there has been no violence.
North Goa SP Nidhin Valsan said that there is no case of hostage. It is a case of property dispute and the matter is in court.
“Both the parties are claiming to be the owners. The matter is in the court and it’s a civil matter. Let us wait for the court order. Depending on the court orders, further action will be taken,” SP Valsan said.
The SP further said that there is no case of any violence or anything. “We are checking the property documents. The High Court had directed the applicants to file the matter in civil court, but meantime we must ensure that the law and order are in place.
There are no bouncers. The term used is a little bit strong. It can be termed as private security guards,” he added.

They have broken my gate, stolen lots of things, my iPad, and all my work. I can’t take it anymore, says Marianne

CALANGUTE: Locked out with no power and water only from her well, Marianne, in tears shared another video on how she is surviving behind the closed doors. She said she cannot move out of the house fearing that the men sent by the party trying to dispossess her, will take possession of the property in her absence. She said that since there is no electricity connection, there is a bit of light coming from the ceiling but it’s been a week and the doors are completely locked.
“I have been closed in this house now for a week. All the doors are completely locked. They cut the electricity. The water is coming from the well. They have broken my gate, they stole lots of things, my iPad and all my work. I can’t take it anymore so have written to the Chief Minister and the DGP Goa. I know now the matter is in court but I need injunction and time to resolve other matters,” she said.
She added that “I can go out, but as soon as I do, they will take all my possession and repossess the house and I can’t allow that and I am going to fight till
the end.”

While Marianne says she will fight till the end, her lawyer floats a ‘settlement proposal’
Team Herald
CALANGUTE: In a rather surprising move, seemingly at odds with Marianne’s steadfast stand of fighting till the end, her lawyer, Adv Benny Nazareth has floated a proposal of settlement.
“Marianne is going to be 76 in April and whatever happens she cannot be going on residing in an atmosphere so very hostile. We have proposed the money that she had paid to the lady’s (Nirmala Acharya e Souza) husband be returned and let her stay for this entire term and later she can honourably take all her things and leave the house provided they pay her back the money,” Nazareth said.
“The Court has given two days’ time for the other party (Nirmala Acharya e Souza) to consider this particular offer. The other party also told the court that they are going to discuss the pros and cons of the offer and report to the court within two days,” Adv Nazareth informed.
“The matter is now kept February 2 for orders. If there is a counter-proposal they will tell the court before the final orders,” the Advocate said.
Does that beg the question of whether returning the money paid by her to the original owner compensates for her life getting uprooted and losing all she built over the years? Will the amount be enough to start her own life or is this being done only under severe and sustained pressure?
When questioned about keeping security personnel, Advocate Nazareth, “She has got no protection from the court and even if she gets the protection, the situation there is so fluid that it would be difficult because the moment she comes out of the house, these people will go inside and never allow her to enter in and all her valuables are in the house because she is staying in the house since 2009.”
